THE OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES: The Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS), an established unit within the Office of the Provost, operates with goals to meet and exceed retention, persistence, graduation, career, and post-graduate outcomes noted in the strategic plan. OUS comprises three major units: The Academic Center for Excellence, Center for Career & Professional Success, and the Office of General Education. Collectively, OUS units provide transformative offerings through three major functions: academic excellence support, academic and career exploration, and career development.
THE ACADEMIC CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE: The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) is an established unit that merges existing advising and support units within the Office of Undergraduate Studies. ACE will offer high- impact academic and career advising and support services to ensure that undergraduate students successfully persist and graduate, at minimum, in accordance with the goals set in the University's strategic plan.
BASIC FUNCTION: The Senior Academic & Career Advisor for Major & Career Exploration Advisor focuses on supporting students through major and career exploration. This role requires expertise in guiding students through self-assessment, academic exploration, career planning and coordination of student success programming that maximizes retention, persistence, graduation rates, and post-graduate outcomes.
SPECIALIZED RESPONSIBILITIES: - Holistic Advising for Major Selection: Provide holistic advising that combines academic and career counseling to help students identify and declare a major that fits their academic strengths and professional goals.
- Career Pathway Workshops: Develop and lead workshops on topics such as decision-making, goal setting, and navigating uncertainty for undecided students, helping them to become confident in their academic and career choices.
- Data Reporting on Exploratory Students: Collect and analyze data related to undecided students' decision-making processes, academic success, and graduation outcomes. Use data to adjust advising approaches and inform university policy for undecided students.
- Collaborative Academic and Career Path Development: Partner with faculty, the Center for Career and Professional Success, and other university offices to create career exploration resources and ensure that undecided students are receiving comprehensive support across both academic and professional domains.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: - Provide one-on-one and group advising focused on academic and career exploration.
- Assist students with course selection, ensuring they can explore multiple disciplines while staying on track for graduation.
- Implement early intervention strategies for students at risk of falling behind due to indecision or lack of direction.
- Develop a robust system for tracking the academic and career progress of undecided students.
- Perform other duties as required to support undecided students' academic and career success.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: - Does not involve supervision of academic advisors but may involve supervision of student workers.
NATURE AND SCOPE: - Internal contacts may include senior administrators, faculty, students, and staff. External contacts may include parents, caregivers, consultants, and the public.
- Some remote work offered during non-peak periods.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree with two or more years of relevant work experience in the public or private sectors.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree with 1 or more years of relevant work experience within an academic setting or University/ College.
