Position: Principal Electrical Engineer
Position Type: Full-time Onsite
Position Location: Huntsville, AL
Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret

Waypoint’s client is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Chief Engineer Office. This senior-level role offers the opportunity to influence the design and development of the next generation of reentry vehicles, rocket motors, and countermeasures—creating realistic and mission-critical test environments for the Nation’s missile defense systems. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader in electrical systems engineering with the ability to drive innovation, ensure technical rigor, and guide engineering solutions from concept through execution.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support all aspects of target design, analysis, and testing, including requirements development, modeling & simulation, test execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Create, review, and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) to ensure design accuracy and system integration.
  • Provide expert technical analysis of target reentry and launch vehicle electrical system designs.
  • Apply engineering rigor to failure review boards and propose corrective actions.
  • Oversee design and integration of electrical systems and components, including circuit design, PCB layout, and system integration.
  • Conduct validation testing to ensure compliance with specifications and performance standards.
  • Develop and execute test plans, analyze results, and resolve engineering issues.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (software, mechanical, systems) to ensure seamless integration of electrical components into target missile systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation including specifications, test plans, analyses, and reports.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery of engineering solutions.
  • Provide clear and proactive communication to senior leadership, including recommendations and status updates.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance system reliability and performance.
Required:
  • Master’s degree in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred).
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in missile defense or other DoD programs.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired:
  • Familiarity with MDA and/or DoD programs and processes.
  • Experience supporting MDA flight tests, analysis, and technical reviews.
  • Experience with development of rocket motors, ground support launch equipment, and reentry vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-tempo environment.
  • Ability to effectively brief and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
