Welding/Innovation Engineer at Harbor Drive, San Diego, works with cross-functional engineering and support groups in order to achieve production requirements, as well product problem resolution for our industrial gas turbine engines and related turbomachinery products. The person in this position will also work in developing innovative projects that allow for automated solutions and quality improvements in our Additive Manufacturing development area.
The elected candidate for the position will support welding operations including Harbor Drive operations, Turbotec (Mexico), Zatec (Czech Republic), Broken Arrow (Oklahoma), and Supply Chain. Some of the activities include but are not limited to certification of new welders to BPVC and ES9-56, retain certification records, logs and organize records for audits preparation. Also support troubleshooting of equipment when needed and be the design authority for choosing the correct weld joint preparation and weld symbols for the print. Review casting defects and suggest the weld repair, review PPAP documentation, working closely with M&P to assist with the material analysis of weldments and from supply chain.
As part of the innovation for additive manufacturing processes, the person in the position will be supporting and leading activities and projects related to the improvement of quality equipment or automatization when possible, to ensure the correct development of the technology, interacting with cross functional groups and ensuring final implementation doing a close follow up from beginning until completion.
What You Need To Have:
Educational Background:
• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or similar degree with a welding background
Technical Excellence:
• Experience in similar industries (aerospace)
• Applicant must be familiar with interpreting AWS or ASME welding codes and be experienced in certifying welders and weld procedures
• Proficiencies for the following skills-sets and tools: geometric dimensional and tolerance specifications (ASME Y14.5), manufacturing/drawing practices, Creo parametric (or related CAD system), MATLAB, Project BI (preferred)
Decision Making and Critical Thinking:
• Must be a proactive self-starter who gets along well with others and demonstrates a high-sense of urgency when needed. This position also requires multi-tasking skills balanced with the ability to pay attention to detail.
• Capable of working effectively under their own initiative, with minimal direction
Effective Communications:
• Excellent written and communication skills

• Project management skills are preferred
Relocation:

This position requires a 5-days in office schedule.

Summary Pay Range:
$120,299.00 - $180,449.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location,job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
