The Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is seeking 2 faculty to join our enlarging team. These candidates must be dedicated to teaching, collaboration and serving our communities. One position is in Battle Creek (OB optional) and the other is with OB in Kalamazoo. Responsibilities include outpatient care and supervision of residents, covering precepting, inpatient and newborn services (OB in Kalamazoo), recruitment, supervision, education, and assessment of resident physicians, participation in quality improvement, utilization review, and outcomes management, opportunity to participate and lead in committees and initiatives with partners, providing high-quality instruction for undergraduate and graduate medical education, and other duties as assigned by the Department. Qualifications include MD or DO degree, completion of an accredited residency program, board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, eligibility for Michigan license, and a dedicated commitment to providing a quality educational experience for residents and medical students. The position offers benefits including CME funding, generous vacation time, and a defined pension plan in addition to a 457b plan for 1.0 FTE faculty. The role involves diagnosing illnesses, prescribing and administering treatment, examining patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, counseling patients on preventive healthcare, and maintaining medical staff privileges. The work requires mental and visual concentration, standing or walking, lifting light-weight objects, and assisting with heavier tasks such as moving patients. The position is full-time with variable shifts and 40 scheduled weekly hours.
