Job Summary

This position is located within the Environmental Analysis & Outcomes division's Surface Water Monitoring section. The incumbent will supervise the activities and resources of the North Biological Monitoring Unit and will coordinate with the North Biological Monitoring Unit. They will direct the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the program activities within this unit.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A) One (1) year of supervisory experience in environmental protection/pollution control.

OR

B) Two (2) years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection/pollution control. Examples for internal candidates -(Environmental Specialist 4, Planner Principal, Hydrologist 2, Engineer 2 Graduate, Research Scientist 2, or related classes).

OR

C) Three (3) years of environmental experience performing work equivalent to an Environmental Specialist 3 level or senior level work directing, designing AND developing criteria for monitoring, assessments, or environmental programs.

OR

D) Equivalent combination of the above.

Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of aquatic biology, water monitoring, water quality, and data management.

Leadership skills sufficient to effectively coach, train, and motivate staff and teams; with the ability to establish shared goals.

Accomplished project management skills to guide and direct a projects while supporting staff and problem solving laterally and vertically to determine appropriate actions.

Ability to develop program and work objectives; plan, coordinate, and implement strategies, and define measures.

Skilled in resolving complex and potentially contentious or controversial environmental issues.

Skilled in presenting complex information in a clear and effective manner in presentations and in written communications to a variety of audiences.

Ability to effectively interpret and communicate policy and regulations to volunteers, industry, government, and the public.

Ability to manage priorities through balance of long- and short-term goals and objectives and appropriate follow through on priorities.

Ability to manage budgets, contracts with partners, and follow MPCA and state purchasing and contracting requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as meeting materials and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

A driver's license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver's License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver's license AND a satisfactory driver's license record check. Requires a Class D driver's license: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
