Position Summary:

The Instructional Coach role is in service of helping teachers develop their instructional expertise and professional habits aligned to the organization's Teaching and Learning Framework. The instructional coach is an integral member of the network's instructional leadership team and plays a vital role in ensuring Grow Public Schools' mission of eliminating the achievement gap in rural Kern County.

The role of the instructional coach is to promote reflection, provide guidance and structure, and focus on actionable next steps to support growth. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms. Development support may include collaborative planning, modeling, observation & feedback of instruction in order to assist in the development and implementation of materials, practices, and strategies to support student achievement. This is not a supervisory position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports teachers in designing effective and rigorous lesson plans with specific, measurable, and standards-based aims in alignment with the organization's units of study
  • Facilitates weekly data analysis meetings with grade level teams to identify re-teaching opportunities and make other instructional decisions
  • Provide guidance and support for curriculum implementation consistent with GPS's initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
  • Assist teachers in understanding GPS's mission and core values.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers with the design, administration, and analysis of a variety of assessments to to inform instruction
  • Assist teachers in the differentiation of instruction to address the needs of all scholars
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of effective evidence-based pedagogical strategies
  • Coaches a caseload of teachers by routinely observing lessons and providing feedback for a teacher's professional growth and scholars' outcomes
  • Leads professional development workshops aligned to the organization's priorities and initiatives
  • Contributes to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools
  • Creates and maintains documentation structures related to instructional coaching
  • Collaborates with the SpEd Coordinator to meet the diverse needs of every learner
  • Participates regularly in ILT meetings and development sessions as directed by the principal and/or the CAO
  • Responsible for mentoring requirements for teachers enrolled in the county's induction program
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of, or experience with teacher growth and development.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, strong subject matter competence and English language development strategies.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Valid clear CA credential or commensurate experience leading teachers
  • Master's degree in Education or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Ability to demonstrate development and delivery of high quality instructional professional development to K-12 teaching faculty.
