Job Summary The Facilities and Security Director role oversees facilities management and physical security of DEED headquarters and other leased and state-owned office locations. This position involves critical responsibilities in the areas of facilities operations, capital planning, property management, contracts oversight, asset preservation, sustainability, capital project implementation, and security of all facilities.
This position is an active, collaborative leader that regularly interacts with internal and external stakeholders. This role works closely with the Department of Administration in leasing, construction and real property management, which holds statutory authority related to State of Minnesota real property, construction and leasing. Under administrative direction of the Agency Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and in close consultation with the Commissioner's Office, this advanced, professional management position is an integral member of the Administrative and Financial Services (AFS) Leadership Team. It involves significant discretion and substantial involvement in the development, interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures related to facilities and security. Key responsibilities will include:
- Advising agency leadership on facilities and security planning and policy development.
- Serving as the liaison between DEED and state/local agencies on facilities and security matters.
- Cultivating constructive working relationships with landlords and property managers at leased locations.
- Managing physical security IT applications in partnership with MNIT, including access control, updates, and reporting.
- Overseeing facility contracts, preventative maintenance, and security investments.
- Leading sustainability initiatives and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Ensuring appropriate budgeting and financial management of projects.
The incumbent of this position is eligible for telework , though is routinely required to be on-site at the office. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment and may telework from anywhere in Minnesota or a neighboring state. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Four (4) years of facilities and security management experience within the last ten (10) years, which includes leadership experience and demonstrates the following:
- Managing or overseeing building operations, maintenance, and repair for multiple leased and owned facilities in geographically disbursed settings including urban and rural environments
- Successfully managing facilities and security budgets
- Demonstrated success working with landlords and property managers
- Swiftly identifying, addressing, and resolving issues related to employee and physical security
- Managing and leading security and safety programs involving security systems, video surveillance systems and crime prevention
- Applying quality assurance and program improvement strategies to support compliance and effective service delivery
- Communicating, negotiating, and building consensus across diverse internal teams, enterprise leaders, vendors, and stakeholders
*Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, public safety or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.

Incumbent must maintain valid driver's license and insurance OR have other reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications - Experience managing facilities and security in a public sector setting, whether local, state or federal including both owned and leased facilities
- Experience with Incident Command System (ICS), Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Continuity of Operations (COOP)
- Management of construction projects with a budget of more than $50,000
- Knowledge of contract management practices, maintenance programs, leasing, codes, regulations, and efficiency standards
