The adjunct instructor will provide instruction and assess student learning in the area of Surgical Technology at Southeast Technical College (STC) to prepare students for an entry-level practice. The adjunct instructor will serve as a clinical instructor in both the clinical and lab setting, reinforcing program standards, the rules and regulations of its accrediting bodies, and the most current industry standards.  For more information regarding this position, please contact the hiring manager, Deb Letcher, at 605-367-5691.

  • Assign students to appropriate clinical preceptors in the operating room (OR) to ensure a variety of learning experiences. 
  • Provide mentorship and guidance by modeling professional behavior, reinforcing surgical technology skills, and facilitating student integration into the OR team.
  • Monitor student progress through regular review of time logs, case records, and clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Deliver timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback on student performance, both informally in the clinical environment and formally through evaluations based on established rubrics. 
  • Collaborate with program faculty to support student competency development in alignment with ARC/STSA and CAAHEP standards. 
  • Assist with open lab sessions on campus, supporting faculty in managing student activities, skills practice, and remediation as needed. 
  • Uphold college, program, and industry standards for professionalism, safety, and patient care. 
  • Develop and teach relevant curriculum that provides classroom theory and laboratory application and prepares students for entry-level positions in the field. 
  • Facilitate class instruction in accordance with learning objectives and session plan outlines specified by Southeast Technical College (STC). 
  • Teach in ways and methods that engages student learning.
  • Establish a positive student learning environment that promotes retention, accountability, excellence, innovation, collaboration, dignity, self-respect, safety, student success and personal and professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Education: Diploma of Surgical Technology required; Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as a surgical technologist in the OR required. Prior teaching or precepting experience preferred, but not required.

General classroom environment with standard equipment available during classroom instruction. Lighting and temperature are adequate for course delivery. Moderate noise levels typical of a classroom environment. May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions when traveling outside the classroom.
